Thank you, Pop and Grama Nette!

Russell and I had such a wonderful time on our anniversary get-away! We filled our time with things we enjoy, and even some things we had never done before. Like we got to see this van.

Nice.
In Joplin, Missouri there is the most beautiful store/bistro you have ever seen. It's called Sandstone Gardens, and it is one of my all-time favorite places to visit. Since Joplin is on the way to Springfield from here, we stopped there first.
Just a sample...
Also in the Joplin area is the original Candy House. LOVE this place! They make the yummiest chocolate toffee ever! Of course we had to stop there...
Not the best picture of either one of us, but it's the only one I got.
That first night, we went to see a Missouri State basketball game in the new JQH Arena. I have to say, this was probably one of my most favorite things we did!
Of course, we had to be festive. I bought this finger for Russell, but he wouldn't wave it, so we gave it to a little boy in front of us. He waved it.

I had fun trying to pretend I knew how to take pictures...
It's a secret desire of mine, to know how to take great pictures.
Anyway, we stayed here:
This is the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge. In all the years I lived in Springfield, I had never been out there. It was a little cold when we got up on the bridge, but it was neat anyway.

We saw two movies in one day!
And we read the paper during breakfast, like happy old people.
We spent one day in Branson. It's the off-season there right now, so most of the shows and such are still closed, but there were a couple of things we had never done that we were able to do this time. First we went to the Butterfly Palace.
We slinked around in the jungle...
Not really, we just pretended.
It was so funny, me trying to use the timer on my camera. This was the best shot, but it provided some laughs.
Again with the "me pretending I'm a photographer".
I actually really liked this picture.
Aww, cute.
After the butterfly fun, we headed over to the Titanic Museum. This was our other favorite part of the trip. They won't let you take pictures inside, but it was awesome!
We ate here before heading back to Springfield. Yummy!

We met Steve and Serena at Chili's, where they treated us to a very yummy lunch. Thanks again, guys! Miss you already!
And, of course, we made a stop at the original Bass Pro Shops. I know that they have now opened these across the country, but I'm telling you, this one is the coolest.
That night we ate dinner with Wes and Kelly and Sean and Tori, but somehow forgot to take pictures. Oops. Love you guys!
And we couldn't head home without eating at our most favorite local date-night stop.
Mmmm, if you're ever in town you must try the Ooey-Gooey Butter Cake. Holy cow.

After five days away, we headed back home, ready to take on anything. Good thing, too, because a few days later we had to take another unexpected trip to a little town near San Antonio. Tyler, Russell's oldest, will be spending about a month down there. I won't get into details here, but keep him in your prayers!
So, again we fell back on my parents, this time with help from my sister-in-law Jennifer (thanks Jen!) to keep the kids. We left here at about 4:00 Wednesday. It was about a 5 1/2 hour drive, so after dropping off Tyler, we stopped for the night just north of San Antonio. On the way home, Russell insisted that we stop at the State Capital. It was very cool.
Always more pretending.
Can you tell we're performers at heart?

We arrived home just in time to pick up the kids from school. Now we're ready to lay low for a few days and settle back down, but man, we had fun. Thanks again to all of our family who made it all possible! You guys are the best!
Last night, after all that traveling, we just hung out at home with the kids. We raked leaves, played in them and messed them all up, and flew kites. I do love living on a cul-de-sac.
(I don't know what's up, but every time I load this picture from the computer, it flips it)
Happy chocolate face.
I still have some catching up to do here on the old blog. Hopefully things will settle down now, and that'll be all I have to worry about!
